Walter and Peggy Cracknell

Walter and Peggy have been involved with Photography for over 40 years. Both have worked with traditional film in the past, having owned their own studio and lab. In 2001 they transitioned into the digital world which has opened up a wider palette to express their varied interests.

Walter has taught photography at Sir Sanford Fleming College in Lindsay Ontario through the Continuing Education Department and has been a guest speaker and judge at many Horticultural and Photographic Societies. Having photographed people for most of his career, Walter has always looked for the inner person to bring his portraits to life, he continues this theme by looking for the soul of his landscapes. Walter has been influenced by Ansel Adams, who once said “A photograph is usually looked at - seldom looked into”. This quote exemplifies how Walter looks for his subject and then how it is handled at the time of printing. Walter studied Art for 3 years under Elizabeth Trott in Thornhill Ontario.

Peggy’s interest in photography started at a young age with her father’s camera, being raised on a farm, Peggy has a deep affinity for two of nature’s main elements, Water and Rocks, and these are the main interests of her works. Being influenced over the years by Walters Photography, Peggy’s excellent eye for colour and composition make her an accomplished photographer and it follows through in her printed pieces.

Walter and Peggy’s works have been shown in Oxford Nova Scotia, Williams Design Studio in Bethany Ontario, Studio 203, Toronto, Ontario, The Blue Tomato, Peterborough, Ontario, The Medical Centre, Omemee, Ontario. Walter and Peggy have images in Private homes and galleries in the United States, Germany, Holland and Ontario and Alberta.

Beverley & Paul Williams
Williams Design Studio
1470 Hwy 7A,
Bethany, ON

Beverley and Paul have shared their studio/gallery in ‘downtown’ Bethany since opening in 1977. Combining various media they design and create in leather, textiles, metals and photography. Much of their work is custom designed for clients homes, offices or their gardens. Lately Paul has been experimenting with using photographs and combining them with copper and brass leaves, or adding bronze ‘splats’ from a Lunenburg foundry into a manipulated photo print. His inspiration is the beautiful rocks that Walter Cracknell photographs and prints. By manipulating the canvas print, Paul brings out hidden details in the rock images and then applies the abstract bronze ‘splat’ onto the piece, rubbing the metal to bring out textural details.

Beverley is fascinated by the many heirloom photos collected from her family and Paul’s family. A display of these original and very old photos is in their studio in their antique frames. Beverley has retouched a number of these cherished images and had some reprinted to be displayed in their front garden, an unusual application in tribute to their family’s heritage.
