Brain Injury Association Peterborough Region (a registered business name of Four Counties Brain Injury Association) has been in operation since 1988 and celebrated our 35-year anniversary in 2023.

BIAPR supports individuals in Peterborough, City of Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton, and Northumberland counties. The association continues to support clientele with diverse needs through a comprehensive model of community support service including outreach supports, ABI Day Service supports, case management, ABI Navigation and educational opportunities such as ABI FYI.

The Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Day Services is offered in Peterborough and the City of Kawartha Lakes (Lindsay) and virtually using Zoom across all four counties. Programming is geared to adults with acquired brain injuries, who have varied needs and capabilities. BIAPR engages our members in productive and meaningful programming activities. Photography provides our members a new and exciting way to communicate when finding words may be difficult. For others it is a way to find community and expression in unique and innovative ways.

2024 will be the tenth year that BIAPR has participated in the SPARK Photo Festival. We are proud of this participation. Every year our interest in photography grows. Members look forward to again showcasing their work in April in our month-long window display as well as hosting an Open House on April 20, 1:00-3:00pm. The BIAPR members and staff are excited to share our work with our community. Our Community Exhibit allows for us to showcase our creativity and abilities. It also empowers members to interact with people in new ways. BIAPR follows the therapeutic recreation principles of a strength-based approach to all that we do and being part of SPARK, each year is a highlight that we all enjoy.

We continue to be involved in the SPARK Photo Festival each year because photography and the images shared through our members’ eyes can transcend the challenges of living with an Acquired Brain Injury. Through the camera lens we are all equal in ability.

BIAPR’s theme for 2024 is “Textures of Life”. This theme has proven to be a wonderfully creative jumping off point. There are many textures in life that we often overlook. It has been incredible to slow down and document them!

As BIAPR’s members, volunteers, and staff – we look forward to sharing our images with our community again this year. We hope to see you peeking through the window or better yet at the Open House!
