Botanical Observations
Artist Statement
Encouraging reflection on the beauty and significance of the natural world is central to my art. In the series Botanical Observations, I present layered views of plant and leaf textures. The blended images create unexpected juxtapositions and new patterns, encouraging a closer examination.
The word observe comes from the latin observare, meaning to watch, regard, note, or heed, but also to guard. I love the idea that if we truly observe the natural world that we will strive to protect it.
I print my own archival pigment prints on Epson Velvet Fine Art Paper. All framing is to archival standards.
Biography
Corin was top of her class in the Photo Arts Program at Haliburton School of the Arts in 2007. She also has a degree in Microbiology from the University of Guelph.
She has exhibited and sold her photographs in festivals such as The Buckhorn Festival of the Arts and been juried into The Art Gallery of Peterborough's Kawartha Autumn Studio Tour. The Elaine Fleck Gallery in Toronto has shown her work and the Ethel Curry Gallery in Haliburton currently presents her photographs.
Teaching photography at Haliburton School of the Arts is an exciting new aspect to Corin’s photography career. She finds endless inspiration in the forests of her new home in the Haliburton Highlands.
Corin won an honourable mention in the Julia Margaret Cameron Awards, in the Professional Fine Art category, and will be exhibited at FotoNostrum Gallery in Barcelona Spain this spring.
