Margaret Hamilton – Elmhirst’s Resort
When I took an interest in photography, I discovered something I believe holds true with all photographers. We see and observe things that many do not. It could be a simple blade of grass, a quirky billboard, the underside of a flower, a deteriorating building or car, a bubble, etc. Photographers see something unique. Many of us look at something or someone and wonder what the story might be and try to capture what we imagine to be true.
I hope you can appreciate my humble attempt to capture the image, the moment, the story, ‘Through My Eyes’ !
I was born in Peterborough in 1947, left and returned in 2004. In this year 2018, I have been married 50 years to a wonderful man and great partner. I have two daughters who both live in the USA with their families, and am a grandmother to three amazing grandchildren, who constantly bring me joy. I am a member of Spirit of the Hills Arts Association, and Peterborough Photographic Society. I volunteer when and where I can.
In 2010, at the Long Lunch Juried Art Show, I was awarded second place. In 2013, I received Best of Photography for Juried Art Show at the Maple Syrup Festival in Warkworth. In 2015 and 2016, I was a co-exhibitor with the Peterborough Photographic Society in the SPARK Photo Festival. In 2013, 2014 and 2017, I did solo exhibits for the SPARK Photo Festival.
For the year 2016, I acted as curator to feature many local photographers each month at Elements Restaurant in Peterborough. Also, the honour of an award from the County of Peterborough and Otonabee-South Monaghan was presented to me for “Leadership in Arts and Culture”.
Currently I’m President of Peterborough Photographic Society and am a board member for the SPARK Photo Festival.
I believe in ‘paying it forward’ by helping family, friends and community when and where I can. Life is good.
