The Newcomer Youth Photo Project was created and designed to inspire youth to explore and connect with Canadian culture, language, the people of their community and the environment through photographic instruction, practice and critique, storytelling and map making, exhibit materials preparation, installation, and public presentation.
Each youth was loaned a DSLR camera and received in-depth photographic instruction through a series of workshops and exercises. The youth were tasked with recording their activities, friends and family, or any other subject they were interested in from September to December 2017. In January, the youth began to learn exhibit presentation skills.
